CurriculumCurrent affairs and entertainment presentations and quizzes are delivered digitally and answers are chosen from an app on their iPads.
Passion projects are developed with each young adult based on their interests. They work on these with Inclusion Assistants. Business concepts are explored through monthly pop-up stalls on campus where they sell items handmade in the Work Life program. |
SocialisationOne of the key features of inclusion is eating lunch with other students at the campus. The dining areas are well-used by students and represent a good opportunity to mingle.
Afternoon games of UNO and puzzles are enjoyed together by the young adults. Uni students are involved as volunteers throughout the week. |

What is unique about this day program?
|
A typical day starts with a sharing activity about how they are feeling. Followed by Business Studies and then morning tea at the dining area. They might shoot some hoops at the basketball net, challenge each other in an online group quiz or further develop their individual passion project on a topic that interests them. The end of the day is for sharing the highlights of the day, having some fun through games, and tidying the space. |
ChoiceThe participants are adults, or are moving into adulthood, so they are not treated like children. Their opinions matter, and they have choices. If they want to sit out or choose to do something else they can.
Augmented communication is used to support all participants, even those who are verbal. |
Fun and friendshipsA fundamental part of having a Higher Education experience is having fun and making new friends. Most tertiary graduates would testify that they made lifelong friends during their time in Higher Education, and the same can be true for Campus Life participants.
|
Sensory needsThere are sensory activities and tools available throughout the day and a chill out space.
|
Support WorkersInclusion Assistants are employed by the charity and trained as communication assistants and given ongoing professional development.
