Campus Life

Campus Life is a day program for young autistic adults (17 to 29 year olds) that are transitioning from school into the next phase of their lives. It is based at tertiary campus locations where participants can mingle with their peers in the café and around campus. It is an adult learning environment with choices and lots of fun.
Participants do quizzes on current affairs and entertainment news, some Business studies, and passion projects. The curriculum is accessible, visual, engaging and suitable for adults with intellectual disability. There is de-sensitising space and support for augmented communication.

Campus Life Program

What is unique about this day program?
  • It is in an inclusive environment, where you would expect to find young adults – a tertiary campus.
  • It combines communication, socialisation, and personalised learning.
  • It is targeted at school leavers and young adults who are neurodivergent.
  • The participants have a choice of tasks and activities.

Curriculum

Current affairs and entertainment presentations and quizzes are delivered digitally and answers are chosen from an app on their iPads.
Passion projects are developed with each young adult based on their interests. They work on these with Inclusion Assistants.
Business concepts are explored through monthly pop-up stalls on campus where they sell items handmade in the Work Life program.

Socialisation

One of the key features of inclusion is eating lunch with other students at the campus. The dining areas are well-used by students and represent a good opportunity to mingle.
Afternoon games of UNO and puzzles are enjoyed together by the young adults.
Uni students are involved as volunteers throughout the week.

What Our Client's Are Saying

"My daughter started this program this year. I was impressed that they were able to individualise the program to her level of understanding. Her own trusted support worker is able to accompany her to help ease anxiety. Already I have seen her participating to her ability. I also am pleased with the updates provided on her day".
